Research made easy!
While doing research about a local artist, I came across an article on the Internet that came from a book published in 1931. I went to the local library and asked for an interlibrary loan to confirm the accuracy of the article. I gave her the name of the book, author, and date.
She called later to say that she couldn’t find the book, and that she even searched on Amazon.
A former student of mine works for INCOLSA, so I e-mailed him to see if he could locate the volume. He promptly replied that it was available at two university libraries and another library, all close to home. He had used Inspire.net’s online research library. I made the copies I needed from one of the libraries.
About a week later, I placed an article about the history of the local school corporation on the Internet. My wife was reading through the author’s sources and found the book we were searching for in his list.
The author was a local person, whose sister is a librarian at the library that couldn’t find the book. My wife and I suspected the volume was available in the local library. Sure enough, all five volumes were located not 10 feet from the reference librarian’s office.
Even more embarrassing is that I forgot that I have a link to Inspire on the web site that I maintain. Next time I need a book, I will be inspired to use Inspire.

Indiana Libraries Inspire Us
I first learned about INSPIRE when I begin to work at the Lincoln Heritage Library in Dale. I used it to help me research items for my job as children's librarian. I am now working at home as I attempt to write for children. I still use INSPIRE to research items for stories. Indiana libraries continue to inspire us.
