Reading Is Essential
I almost dropped out of school. I hated it. I had a hard time learning to read and struggled with all my other subjects as a result. I wasn't exposed to books or encouraged to learn before first grade. Thankfully I got inspired in my Junior year, stuck with school, earned a college degree later in life, and am now an avid reader. When I moved to Shelbyville, I came to the library to find out about the community and I pondered what it would be like to work here in such a pleasant atmosphere. Years later, after spending about a decade in a fast-paced, stressful job in Indianapolis, I did land a job in the library Outreach Services. Now I'm making a difference in my community and I'm closeby if my family needs me. I present storytimes and read aloud to audiences of all ages outside the library walls and I teach parents and caregivers of children ages 0-5 about early literacy. I'm passionate about getting kids and families onto books because I know firsthand that reading is essential for success in today's world.

Thank You, INSPIRE!
INSPIRE has been extremely helpful in my education and my career. I used INSPIRE regularly in college to complete research for papers, speeches, and projects. I now teach English, Speech, and Composition in a small, rural school. Our library does not contain the amount of books or resources my students need to complete thorough research requirements for papers, projects, and speeches. However, my students are very able, and capable of producing excellent research with the use of INSPIRE. Most of them find it very simple to use and very beneficial. Thank you INSPIRE!

I remember going upstairs as a little girl getting books during remodeling of the library. It was scary but June Sears the children's librarian maade it all worthwhile.

Library Is a Jewel in Shelbyville's Crown
When I moved back to Shelbyville the library helped me get reacquainted with people. I met my best friend at library storytime. Storytime is wehre my love of our library started. I was a stay at home mom--the library became our haven of entertainment and the coolest thing is that is was free!
In 2000 I became an employee of the library, assisting with storytimes, developing crafts helping patrons. When the children's librarian, Janet was offered the job of Library Director I became the Children's Librarian. Our library is evolving. It is bettering itself constantly. Janet is always looking into improving and keeping us current with the changing needs of society. She will be great director because she is dedicated and possesses the love for our library. Yes, I have to say that the Shelbyville-Shelby County Public Library is a jewel in Shelbyville's crown!!!
