Thank You to Dedicated Library Staff

"To the Editor:
I recently read your column on the Monroe County Public Library and their ranking of 15th in the nation of 325 in a survey. Yet there was an important aspect of our library that was not mentioned.
For seven months now, three individuals have been bringing me books. I write out a small list of books that I would like to read and they do their best to see that I get them. I've tried to relay to these individuals that I appreciate what they do, yet I feel that sometimes words just are not enough.
You see, without these kind people to bring me and 250 other people books, some of us would go stir crazy, for a lack of better words. I do not know the names of these three individuals from the library, yet they will know who they are. These dedicated and warm people in my opinion are priceless.
You see, I'm an inmate at the Monroe County Jail and every Tueday, Wednesday and Thursday they take their time to come to the jail to bring books for us. And that in my opinion makes them at the highest of the survey, at number one.
Kudos to Sheriff Steve Sharp and to Colonel Bill Wilson for allowing and providing the staff in assisting these librarians. It makes an unfortuante situation of being here, much better."

Great Resource
I went to a local (mega-corporation) bookstore looking for a book I'd been searching for for years. The employee was unable to help me find the book which I later found myself but couldn't afford. I went to the fiction desk at the Monroe County Public Library and requested it as a new item. The library got it in a few weeks and I've been able to enjoy it for weeks at my leisure. What an invaluable resource! And the MCPL staff is about the coolest bunch of people in town!

Good Experiences at the Library
Before I was an employee, I was a happy patron. Most of all I recall Amal Altoma, her ready smile and willingness to do whatever it took to provide a good experience for a patron.
