INSPIRE Should Be Top Priority
For anyone who thinks that patrons don't do research two days before Christmas--think again. Just today a non-traditional college student was in our library looking for information for a class she is taking. I was able to direct her to Business Source Premier where she found many articles that could be used to help her write a position paper. This is just one instance where we have been able to help students find information on INSPIRE. There have been so many others that it is hard to recall all of them. I personally used INSPIRE to find out how to rebuild the boxed gutters on a Victorian-era house; an example of a general interest question. I have also helped patrons find medical information when they have come to the library directly from the doctor's office with less than complete information. Students of all ages have either used INSPIRE in the library or we have instructed them on how to search from their home computer. It is truly an invaluable resource and I would hope that funding for it should be a top priority with Indiana state legislators.
