The Library Stories Initiative

The Library Stories Initiative began in 2015 as a multipart concept to support libraries and library support groups.  We are affiliated with various Friends of the Library organizations.
The Initiative creates a series of short videos for libraries throughout the United States where everyday library patrons tell viewers how they find the modern library useful.   The short entertainment videos reveal the diverse variety of services and programs, as well as the cross section of patrons, and act as a virtual tour of their library.   The videos are offered to library support groups, at no cost to them, with instructions and support on how to use the videos to support and promote their library.  The platforms/venues for the videos include:

  • Friends of the Library Website
  • Friends of the Library Facebook site
  • Other social media
  • Library Website
  • Library Facebook site
  • Friends Electronic Newsletter
  • Online News outlets: Noozhawk, Edhat
  • City’s website
  • County’s website
  • PSA for local TV, commercial and public access
  • Email campaign for Friends contacts
  • FOL annual meetings
  • Promote to service clubs and ask for link on their site
  • Fundraising pitches using DVD or web link
  • City Council mtgs
  • GATV broadcasts
  • Home page of computers in library

The Library Stories campaigns outreach to the local community to educate about the widespread and diverse use of the modern library and also for fundraising purposes.   .The Initiativeoffers both a business and marketing campaign for the different libraries and their support groups.

The Library Stories Initiative will leverage the power of working with a number of library support organizations (i.e. Friends of the Library) to help them to promote their local library and to share ideas for library programs and fundraising methods.  Friends of the Library groups don’t usually have much business experience.  Library Stories will help them share ideas to effectively promote their library. Through social media and other venues, the videos will be seen by many non-library users to expose them to programs and resources of their local library that may benefit them.
